I have lived in the Savannah area all my life. Having been born in Telfair Hospital downtown Savannah on Feb. 11, 1952 I spent the first seven years of my life in Garden City. In 1959 we moved to Effingham County where I have remained a resident until this day.

I have always been interested in music and can't remember a time that I did not have Rock 'n' Roll records. When I was five I had a collection of Buddy Holly 45's. (They looked a lot like CD's kids but operated on an antique machine called a phonograph). I remember listening to "Peggy Sue" over and over in my bedroom in Garden City. Later I became an avid Elvis fan and can remember his first performance on Ed Sullivan (Ed Sullivan used to host what was called a "variety show"). But just before my twelfth birthday the big event happened. The Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan. Actually I was already interested in the Beatles since the summer of 1963 when my cousin came to visit and brought his new "short wave" radio and we would listen to the BBC late at night. From those nights I was already familiar with songs like "She Loves Me" and "Please, Please Me".

By the time I was sixteen I was playing bass guitar in a Rock band called "The 21st Century Sound". At that time I had become interested in heavy rock guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and Johnny Winter. Our group's sound included a lot of music from those musicians.

As years went by I quit playing music and settled down to raise a family. At first my wife (Linda) and I were the type of parents that sent our daughter (Greta) to Sunday school but never entered the Church ourselves. But in 1988 we began to feel that something was missing in our lives. So we found ourselves involved in a Sunday school class called Spiritual Seekers at Springfield United Methodist Church (SUMC). That year I joined SUMC and Greta was baptized. Linda had been a member of SUMC since she was a child.

As time went by I came to develop a relationship with Jesus Christ. There was no point in time that I can say I became saved but one thing had become sure "I once was blind but now I see". I began teaching Sunday school on a rotational basis with other members of the class. I still teach Sunday school today and am currently a Local Lay Speaker for Springfield United Methodist Church.

In November of 1996 I was teaching a lesson from Matthew. I'm not sure of the exact Scripture for that day but the message was that we should use our talents for God's work. In particular the author of the lesson pointed out musical talent. I began to pray about this and consider what I should do with my musical talents.

Soon after that we had our class Christmas party. I invited Bob Vale, our youth pastor, to the party and told him to bring his guitar. We sat around and played Christmas carols while the whole class sang. Later as the party was beginning to break up Bob pulled out some old Rock music and we began jamming on it. A connection had been made.

In January 1997 I approached Bob about starting a Gospel group. He said we should contact Derek Kight and Mark Anderegg. We did and the band,"Men of Faith", was born. Later that year I began inviting my old friend Richard Gould to our practices. Soon after that he joined as our fifth member.

There have been uncountable blessings from our performances as Men of Faith. The way we have been accepted by the church people throughout the area has been overwhelming. It has to be the Spirit because we could not do what we do alone. I look forward to the future and pray that "Men of Faith" will remain a part of my life until I die and even beyond as we gather "up yonder". And always I pray "May the Circle be Unbroken."
